: You can also get a pre-requisite by trade, and not actually research it at all, if it doesn't give you any thing you need.(Some tech's don't give you anything at all, but are only pre-requisites for what you do need.)
No, you need to research the tech for it to count as a pre-requisite. Merely having the blueprint isn't sufficient.
